The Commandant Ordered Me To Have A Sexual Act When I Reported It, They Tried To Destroy Me

post-traumatic stress disorder

It is still common practice to ignore and cover up incidents of mobbing and harassment in the services. We report on reports of officers who have been hurt on the main page of Gazeta.pl.

The most recent text: We spoke with a second injured policewoman after our text was published. A mediator and police officer, Sylwia Szary, shares her personal stories.

In addition, she serves on the SayStop foundation's board of directors at the moment. I received an order that I was unable or unwilling to carry out, and that is when you decided enough was enough.

I was given a directive by my superior, the district police chief in Shubce, regarding my sexual behavior. I was a mother of three children, a wife, and a police officer with more than 20 years of experience at the time. I also served as the unit's head of the police union and the vice-chairman of the provincial police union's board of directors in the Lubuskie voivodship.

Did you report it? Yes, I did, and as a result, I was subjected to a number of reprisals after I reported mobbing and informed the responsible party of a request for a further sexual act. For me, my family, and my coworkers who support me, it's extremely painful.

It was a miracle that the SayStop foundation, where I could go for assistance, was established around this time. You received no support in the business environment.

I encountered a huge misunderstanding after bringing these irregularities to their attention. Additionally directly related to the setting in which I served.

There were two or three women who supported me and recognized the harm, based on the 30 or so women who were working there at the time. Due to their fear of reprisals, another two or three people offered their support but did so in silence.

And a large number of officers, including the commander, who held positions of authority for a while, displayed no understanding whatsoever of the issue of harassment, reported mobbing, or any other form of empathy. I tried, but I didn't get any understanding from them, and they were women. Didn't you ask the psychologists in the service for help?.

For humiliating me, my abuser was facing disciplinary action. Despite the fact that she also pretended the issue did not exist, the group was being led by a female spokeswoman.

In the meantime, retaliatory actions became more severe. It didn't take long to wait after submitting the mobbing report to learn what the behaviors were.

In the beginning, it involved a transfer to a police station located 30 or 40 kilometers away. I was a single mother at the time, so this commuting required a complete reorganization of my life.

I was able to serve in Subice again after finally winning this. I didn't want to be broken by them.

The following year, I went back to Slubice. My allowance was then taken away.

I was referred to the medical commission because it was determined that I was no longer fit for duty. While the occupational medicine department made a decision that I should not work at night for a specific amount of time, the commission determined that I was fit for work.

The doctor claimed that it was connected to sexual activity and post-traumatic stress disorder. This was likely the first instance in the nation in which an appeal was filed to the Zielona Góra voivodeship labor center regarding the decision regarding the ability to serve.

The author of this appeal is also female. So that I wouldn't be dismissed from the service, the occupational medicine doctor later lifted the restriction on working at night.

He gave me a certificate stating that I am qualified to work full-time. After the incident involving the grenade launcher and other events involving the nation's first policeman, we can now see that there are no ongoing legal proceedings against the commander. I assume that the actions against you have not been stopped.

This was rejected as being legitimate. While this was going on, I was the subject of disciplinary action for swearing while on duty, thinking I was going to offend the commandant, or saying I was willing to work for pay.

I was labeled a mobster by the commission in Gorzów that was appointed by the provincial police chief, but the commission in this case, which was presided over by a woman, neither informed me of the process nor even gave me the opportunity to speak because it determined that there was no need for it. There were numerous such proceedings, all of which were dismissed, and I was found not guilty.

Numerous coworkers are also bought, as evidenced by testimony they provided against you. There is no discussion of this.

We worked together for 20 years before my friend, who later testified against me. I am aware that these things take place.

The official side has never had a reason to want to put an end to this issue, find a solution, or draw conclusions from it. It snowballed; if I reported mobbing, I became the poviat commander's enemy; if I became the poviat commander's enemy, I became the voivodeship commander; and if he became the enemy, I became the head and your spokesperson.

The entire system of power, which was supported by tax dollars, was working against me. I was accused of dressing poorly in anonymous letters to the commander, but I don't know what else was going on at the time.

According to what was written, the police become aggressive because of my clothing. Many different things were the subject of rumors.

Moreover, my private life. There were rumors about my husband having side relationships with mistresses and kids.

The so-called hazard map first appeared at that time. Anyone using this application could click on the location if they saw anything unsettling.

It so happened that the majority of these perilous circumstances occurred close to my home, on one of the quietest streets in the city. I was able to see the patrol because of this from the windows in the morning, noon, and evening.

My entire family was the subject of a tax audit. Numerous anonymous letters were sent to me.

They related to the idea that I would work with the Ukrainians in some capacity and that I had allegedly given them rooms to stay in. These anonymous individuals numbered in the thousands.

Additionally, there were threats. They attempted to destroy me, just as they attempted to destroy you.

While I was on probation, the commander of the voivodeship sent three women with the rank of inspector and backgrounds similar to mine to my home at 10 am. They gave me a letter informing me that I was the subject of disciplinary action and would be fired from my position.

I was having a lot of difficulties, both mentally and financially. Realizing that I am the victim and that I have done nothing wrong is the biggest obstacle.

I was given psychological and legal assistance, as well as instruction on how to manage stress, only at the foundation, which is why it helped. I was being interrogated at the time and it was extremely difficult because I had experienced sexual assault.

I was able to get to where I am now due to collaboration with the foundation. I also serve as the foundation's vice president, SayStop.

We need to know that an order is an order, so let us know what your main objective is. However, as officers, we must be aware that nothing absolves us from considering that we have the right to refuse to carry out an order given to us by a service party if it is unlawful.

It is not the intention of the Foundation to engage in conflict with commanders, office directors, or heads of uniformed services. The Management Board of the Foundation believes that the uniformed services are falling short in the fight against mobbing, which has an irreparable negative impact on the officers and the reputation of the uniformed services.

Inability to act independently or respond in a timely and efficient manner to deplorable actions taken by superiors toward subordinate officers. Hiding cases under the rug, referring them to the courts, dismissing people from their jobs, or taking retaliatory action against someone for reporting mobbing are not solutions.

The Foundation seeks to increase public awareness and train the uniformed services to be knowledgeable, exact, and effective in the fight against mobbing or harassment, rather than against a regular officer. The next generation—our daughters and sons—will enlist in the armed forces.

Depending on the morals, rules, and service values we instill in them, their future, our future, and the future of the country, will all depend on us. Along with the hierarchy, we need to learn self-respect, teamwork, openness, and the ability to see things as they are rather than how I will make 2000 cards for disciplinary actions.

There are already about 300 people there. If the foundation hadn't helped you, I don't think I would still be here, and I can only imagine what might have happened.

The futures of those involved—theirs, ours, and the future of the country—depend on us passing on the terms and values of service. If you experience violence while serving, please contact the SayStop Foundation at kontakt@saystop . pl.
